Celebrating 50 Years
The Amazing History of SEA
This year Sea Education Association (SEA) celebrates its 50th year. SEA was founded in 1971, and in 1972 we made our first student voyages. Much has changed over 50 years – we’ve expanded our program offerings for college undergraduates, gap year, and high school students, and added partner programs with institutions around the country. And much remains the same, the bold vision that inspired our founders has proved enduring. Experiential education at sea is more important now than ever!
Please enjoy this look back at our history with news reports, diary entries, photos, and videos that tell the story of SEA. Members of the SEA community also share their thoughts about the value of SEA for the next 50 years. Finally, check back here for updates on regional gatherings of alumni and friends, and links to upcoming virtual events, so that we may all celebrate our 50th together.
