Gap Year Financial Aid

Making Gap Year a Reality

SEA works with gap students and their families to make participation in our programs a reality. SEA’s admission process is need-blind and applying for financial aid does not affect your chances of being accepted.

SEA has limited funds available to assist students who demonstrate family financial need. SEA works closely with applicants during the admissions process to estimate costs, discuss available aid, and consider options, including payment plans. We carefully assess each student’s financial situation based on submitted materials. Applicants are encouraged to submit financial aid materials by their designated term financial aid priority deadline. Notification of financial aid awards are provided after admissions decisions are made.

Students who are interested in utilizing funds from 529 plans are encouraged to talk to the savings fund agency to determine whether or not these funds can be used to pay for program fees, as the rules for each fund vary. Please note that SEA cannot make these determinations for you.

How To Apply for Aid & Scholarships

To be considered for all available SEA funding, students must submit financial aid applications by these priority deadlines:

  • Fall programs: April 15
  • Spring programs: October 15

To apply for need-based aid from SEA, you must submit these documents through the SEA application portal::

  • SEA High School/Gap Financial Aid Application
  • Supporting parent/guardian’s most recent Federal Tax Return*

*If you have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you may submit your Student Aid Report in lieu of your Federal Tax Return.
